Lauren packs a punch
A Cathkin High School pupil picked up the Junior Student of the Year award for her impressive performances in taekwondo.
Fourth year Lauren Russell has been going from strength to strength and is now just below a black belt.
She has been training three times a week and started taekwondo to build confidence and self-assurance.
Lauren was shocked to find out she had won the prize.
She said: “There are lots of amazing students who train with me and I felt that I wasn’t in with a shot at winning.
“I was thrilled to hear my name being announced and to hold up the trophy.”
Next on Lauren’s agenda is to achieve a black belt after winning the award.
