Rutherglen Glencairn have signed ex-Motherwell striker Gary Smith.

The 26-year-old, who has experience of playing in the Europa League, has penned a deal at The Celsius Stadium following successful talks with gaffer Willie Harvey.

He started his career as a youth player at Queen’s Park before taking up full-time football at Motherwell.

After loan spells at Dumbarton and Stenhousemuir, Smith picked up an injury which curtailed his senior career and he moved into junior football.

Shettleston took a chance on the player before Super Premier outfit Arthurlie came calling.

Glens boss Harvey was delighted to pry the forward away from The Lie.

He said: “Gary is a premier league player. He’s got a few friends at the club so we managed to get him in for a conversation. And we convinced him it was good idea to join us.

“He is experienced and he’s a goalscorer. He’s been on holiday and probably not been playing as much as he would have liked at Arthurlie last year so we’ll get him in training.”
