Actor launches drama school

Rutherglen Reformer - - News - Edel Kenealy

A Cambuslang actor is opening a drama school in the town in a bid to see others follow in his thespian footsteps.

Reece Donnelly, who worked on Waterloo Road, is launching the Theatre School of Scotland in Cambuslang following success teaching across the country.

The 20-year-old former Trinity High School student hopes the school will provide children with a realistic chance of succeeding in the industry.

It will be held in Park View Primary School before eventually moving to the new Newton Primary School.

Reece, who has a BA Honours in Drama and worked on screen and stage, said: “I have been teaching children for four years. The reason I wanted to do it here is because I have been doing workshops in Aberdeen and I thought I could be teaching kids in my own community.

“We will be teaching four to 18 year olds. For the younger kids it’s all about building their confidence and making them confident in what they’re doing.

“We will be specialising in TV, film and commercials and there will be annual theatre show.”

Reece says the school will be particularly special in Scotland because it will be connected to talent agency KR Management.

Headed up by his friend Katie Rutherford and where Reece also works, the agency specialises in finding work for child actors.

This means children in the Cambuslang classes could be put forward for roles which Reece is made aware of via casting directors approaching the agency.

He said: “I want to pass on the knowledge and training to the younger generation to allow Scottish kids to be put on the map from a young age.

“At the agency we get jobs in every week for kids.”

Reece is hoping to launch the Theatre School of Scotland at Park View Primary School at the end of the school holidays.

But he is also teaching a four-day summer school course for budding actors aged six to 18 from July 30 to August 3.

It will include audition training for TV, film and theatre roles and Anna Dawson, from Simone Perira Hind Casting, will also provide a workshop. Jordan Summers Photography will take headshots for all participants and, on the final day of the course, students will have the option to audition for KR Management.

For more information on the course, which costs £100, and the Cambuslang classes email info@ theatreschoolofscot or call 07495271306.
