Opposition to new Doctor is sexist

I was pleased to see Andrew Smith welcome a female Doctor Who but was somewhat perplexed by his assertion that people against it are not sexist.

My understanding is the Doctor is a space-travelling alien who regenerates every so often.

If that is the case the only surprise is that after a dozen or so regenerations the Doctor is only now becoming a woman.

Any suggestion the Doctor has to be a male simply doesn’t stand up to scrutiny and if you feel that is the case then, I’m sorry, that is sexist.
