Se­niors reach last eight

Ruther­glen Bowl­ing Club’s se­nior fours gents were knocked out of the Bowls Scot­land fi­nals by the even­tual win­ners.

Ian Ste­wart, Wil­liam Wales, Alis­tair Ri­ach and John McGowan reached the quar­ter-fi­nals by knock­ing out Wishaw team Holdsworth in the last 16 match.

The quar­tet were in ac­tion hours later last Tues­day but sadly lost 17-7 to Haw­ick, who went on to lift the gents’se­nior fours tro­phy.

Bowler Alis­tair, who has been a mem­ber at Ruther­glen BC since 1972, said:“It was a good feel­ing. It was a close game against Holdsworth right up un­til the very last.

“We were eight shots up by two ends and edged away after that to win 16-11.

“It’s was re­ally good down there. It’s an ex­cel­lent at­mos­phere. The place was ab­so­lutely jump­ing.”

Else­where, the ladies triples of Helen Stevenson, Ma­bel Robert­son and May Hay lost in the first round against Car­ron and Car­ronshore.
