A serial domestic abuser is facing jail for attacking three former partners at houses in Lanarkshire including in Rutherglen.

Thirty-three-year-old Alan Hutton pleaded guilty on Monday to three assault to injury charges involving the three women when he appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court.

The offences involved former partner Jennifer Brisbane at houses in Rutherglen and East Kilbride between July 2004 and January 2007, Karen McCulloch at house in Stonehouse between March and July 2008, and Emma Murray at a house in Larkhall between January 2015 and July 2016.

Fiscal depute Michael Macintosh told Sheriff Ray Small that Ms Brisbane recalled Hutton as being violent during their relationship.

In one incident Hutton took hold of her neck and applied pressure to it. Ms Brisbane took hold of his private parts and Hutton responded by biting her cheek.

The witness recollected that the bite broke the skin but did not result in bleeding.

She also remembered being pushed on to a coffee table after she had asked him to leave. Hutton also headbutted her on another occasion when she asked him to leave.

The relationship ended on January 2007 after violence had become a regular occurrence, said the fiscal depute.

Ms McCulloch and Ms Murray also recalled several incidents. Ms McCulloch said Hutton strangled her, headbutted her and bit her on the cheek.

Hutton’s agent Jackson Bateman told Sheriff Ray Small his client’s record was punctuated by short-term sentences.

He said Hutton is currently out of prison on licence on a charge of culpable conduct, in which he had poured petrol within a flat in Larkhall. Hutton had been jailed in November for this offence.

Deferring sentence on Hutton until August 31 for a criminal justice social work report and restriction of liberty order, Sheriff Small observed he had“a bad record for domestic matters”in which a number of women had been subjected to violence.

While it was possible Hutton would receive a custodial term for the offences, Sheriff Small added he was prepared to release him on bail until that date for updates on his progress while out on licence and on the Change Domestic Abuse Programme – and for consideration of a Crown motion for a non-harrassment order.

He was bailed to his father’s house in Broom Crescent, East Kilbride.
