Po­lice are ap­peal­ing for in­for­ma­tion af­ter a man was se­ri­ously as­saulted in a Cambuslang take­away.

The 46-year-old was in Spices on Hamil­ton Road in the early hours of Sun­day morn­ing when he spoke briefly to a man and woman who were also cus­tomers in the shop.

The man then struck him sev­eral times to the face.

An am­bu­lance was called and he was taken to hos­pi­tal where he re­quired treat­ment for se­ri­ous fa­cial in­juries.

The male sus­pect is de­scribed as aged ap­prox­i­mately to 23 to 27 years of age, 5ft 8”in height and of thin build. He was in the com­pany of a fe­male.

Any­one who wit­nessed the in­ci­dent at 12.45am, or has any in­for­ma­tion, is asked to con­tact of­fi­cers at Cambuslang CID on 101 or crime stop­pers anony­mously on 0800 555 111.

Mean­while, a 31-year-old man has been ar­rested for al­leged drink driv­ing.

The man was driv­ing on Cambuslang Road shortly af­ter mid­night on Sun­day when his be­hav­iour sparked the sus­pi­cion of po­lice.

Of­fi­cers stopped the ve­hi­cle and breathal­ysed the driver, who was al­legedly found to be three times in ex­cess of the le­gal al­co­hol limit. He has been re­ported to the procu­ra­tor fis­cal.

A man was held in po­lice cus­tody at the week­end af­ter re­port­edly be­ing found in pos­ses­sion of a knife.

The man, aged 36, was found with the weapon af­ter po­lice were called to a dis­tur­bance at Sil­ver­banks Gait around 4.30am on Sun­day

He was de­tained pend­ing a court ap­pear­ance at a later date.
