A project that will help reach older men and tackle isolation in Rutherglen and Cambuslang has been handed a boost.
South Lanarkshire Seniors Together group received a £117,181 grant from the National Lottery to develop their mobile men’s shed.
The project has already proved a hit in Hamilton and will now be rolled out to Rutherglen and Cambuslang, as well as East Kilbride.
Seniors Together has taken a lead role in supporting the development of the three existing men’s shed groups and has now secured funding to develop the mobile facility over the next three years.
Over that period it is expected that 2,250 older people will participate and 60 volunteers will assist.
Helen Biggins, chairwoman of Seniors Together, said: “We are absolutely delighted about this National Lottery award from the Big Lottery Fund and can’t wait to get started.
“I would like to thank all the men in South Lanarkshire who took part in surveys, focus groups and questionnaires which all helped us make this successful bid.”
Big Lottery Fund Scotland chairwoman Maureen McGinn said: “I am delighted that South Lanarkshire Seniors Together has been successful in securing a Big Lottery Fund grant.”
