A woman has described the moment she had to flee from Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock.

Donna McEwan was coming off a helicopter ride when the shooting started.

The massacre is the worst mass shooting in American history.

A Cambuslang couple have recalled the “absolutely terrifying“moment they were caught up in the mass shooting in Las Vegas on Sunday night.

Donna McEwan and Gordon McLean had just completed a late night helicopter ride along the strip when they heard machine gun fire coming from the Mandalay Bay Hotel.

Stephen Paddock, 64, opened fire from the 32nd floor of the hotel towards the Route 91 open-air music festival killing 59 people and injuring 527.

The pair had enjoyed a meal in the Mandalay Bay just hours before the tragedy.

Mother of three Donna said: “We got off our helicopter and heard machine gun shots. We were about five minutes walk away.

“We thought it was something else and made jokes about it, but Gordon looked up at the Mandalay Bay and saw lights flashing from where the guns were being fired. We all got ushered inside and folk were running in from the concert covered in blood.

“We were put into a back room. Suddenly the doors burst open and someone shouted he’s got a gun. We were running around looking for somewhere to go.

“Gordon kept calm and pushed me behind a shelf and was putting tables in front of me. A girl was shot lying on the floor and we had to step over her. A guy was praying for everyone, everyone was calling family members telling them they love them. “It was absolutely terrifying. “It’s surreal, it feels like we were in some so sort of horror movie.”

Donna and Gordon were evacuated to a private airport with armed guards and sniffer dogs where a host of holiday makers were locked in for their safety.

They remained there until police were confident that Paddock, who was shot, was acting alone; they returned to their hotel on the strip at 7am.

Donna added: “Myself and Gordon had a terrible night and can’t believe we were so involved but we’ll dust ourselves down and enjoy the rest of our time as much as we can.”

Donna and Gordon flew to Las Vegas for a week’s holiday on September 28.

They checked into the MGM Grand Hotel, but have spent days and nights visiting the many sites along the strip.
