Rutherglen Town Hall was facing a crippling £3million repairs bill after years of neglect had sent the cost soaring - and the housing associatio­n warned they might have to quit the building if conditions worsened.

The grim toll of factory closures and job losses in Cambuslang was revealed in an alarming council report, showing 10,000 jobs had gone in 15 years.

Labour comfortabl­y won a regional council by-election for Rutherglen and Toryglen, with the Liberals second.

The fire brigade in Rutherglen and Cambuslang had been called out to 544 different incidents over the past year, an increase of 10 per cent on the previous year.

Glencairn eased to a 3-0 win over St Anthony’s in the Whyte and Mackay Cup first round tie.
