Former Cambuslang RFC fly-half Duncan Weir has been told he has no future at Edinburgh Rugby.

Weir, who has earned 27 Scotland caps, was expected to complete a loan move to Worcester but has been recalled by Edinburgh for Friday’s Pro14 meeting with Ulster.

However, Richard Cockerill, the Edinburgh head coach, has told the former Cathkin High pupil that he and three other players do not feature in his plans.

Weir is expected to sign a long-term contract with Worcester, where former Edinburgh coach Alan Solomons is now director of rugby.

The 26-year-old has had an injury-ravaged two years at Edinburgh since joining from Glasgow Warriors.

Cockerill said:“Duncan needs an opportunity and there’s an opportunity at Worcester.

“Now because he is a good man, we’ll let him take that opportunity, because he needs to go and find a new club. Where possible, we’ll try and help any player to move on in a positive way.”
