Rutherglen Reformer - - News - Jonathan Geddes

A Rutherglen clothes shop has been honoured for its good customer service.

Kid’s Talk in the Rutherglen Exchange shopping centre won the consumer’s award at the Glasgow retail business awards.

The shop, which has been based in Rutherglen for 48 years, will now go forward to the Scottish finals in June.

Store manager Ian Donaldson runs the shop with wife Debbie, and was delighted at the recognition.

He said: “It’s fantastic and I’m really proud as we are a small independent business.

“We were up for two awards, the consumer’s award and the children’s retailer award.

“Getting the consumer award is a big honour though, and it was for all businesses, n o t jus t c h i l d r e n ’s companies.”

After a store is nominated in the regional business awards, judges carry out a mystery shop and mystery phone call to see how staff respond to customers.

Kid’s Talk impressed the judges enough to earn recognition, and will now compete against winners from across Scotland at the national awards.

Ian added: “It would be great if we could win the national award too, but we are pleased to have done this well already – it is good to see a local Rutherglen business doing well.”

In addition to Ian and Debbie, the store only employs one other member of staff.
