Kath­leen’s moves net dance award

South La­nark­shire se­condary schools con­test

A Ruther­glen High School pupil fought off fierce com­pe­ti­tion to be named one of the top per­form­ers in a se­condary school dance con­test.

Kath­leen Collins was among the win­ners at the South La­nark­shire Leisure and Cul­ture Ac­tive School Se­condary Dance Com­pe­ti­tion 2018.

The 17-year-old took home the prize for Best In­di­vid­ual in the S1 to S3 age group at the event which saw a to­tal of 280 pupils take part.

Chair­man of South La­nark­shire Leisure and Cul­ture, Coun­cil­lor, David Wat­son, said: “Our an­nual dance event is a cel­e­bra­tion of the lead­er­ship and cre­ativ­ity tak­ing place across our learn­ing com­mu­ni­ties on a daily ba­sis.

“The stan­dard of the per­for­mances was out­stand­ing and the con­fi­dence in the pupils per­form­ing on the night shone through.

“Vol­un­teers in school com­mu­ni­ties leading dance clubs make a huge con­tri­bu­tion to the event and sup­port our Ac­tive Schools team in mak­ing the night such a suc­cess.”

Schools from Ruther­glen and Cam­bus­lang were among 17 from across South La­nark­shire to send teams to com­pete in the con­test staged at Hamil­ton Town House.

Trin­ity High School pupils chose the track Around The World for their per­for­mance in the S1 to S3 cat­e­gory while Catkin High danced to Brit­ney Spears’ Cir­cus.
