Curry house wins national honour

Cambuslang restaurant thanks customers for award

- Jonathan Geddes

A Cambuslang curry house is the best bar naan – and that’s official.

Cinnamon, on the town’s Main Street, took home the prize for best loved restaurant at the glittering Scottish Curry Awards last week.

The team from the popular venue were delighted to curry favour and take home the prize, which was dished out at a black tie dinner at Glasgow’s Crowne Plaza Hotel.

And there was extra satisfaction for the eaterie, as it’s award is one voted for by the public.

Manager Ali Rahman said: “We’re all thrilled about it – it’s a great achievement.

“It was a complete surprise to win it, we went in just happy that we were nominated.

“Being chosen by our customers meant it felt even more special – I think it’s because we try and pay attention to detail, whether it’s the curries, the fresh ingredients that we use, or just the way that we speak to people when they come in to the restaurant.”

Ali added: “I think it’s good for Cambuslang that we won it, it means the area has an award-winning restaurant right here.”

Cinnamon’s good news was also greeted warmly on social media.

One delighted female customer posted: “Go there all the time; food lovely and they’re really lovely too. Well done, well deserved.”

Another added: “Well done. Great work pays off for sure. Plus the amazing curries too!”

While a third fan of the restaurant wrote: “Amazing news. Well deserved for an amazing family and business.”

Irfan Younis, chief executive of Oceanic Consulting, who run the awards said: “The Scottish Curry Awards is one of the very first events which we did, so it is very dear to us.

“Throughout the last ten years, we have admired the tenacity of the curry industry despite the numerous challenges.

“The Scottish Curry Awards is one of the few times when the industry’s establishments and individuals are recognised, and we’d like to congratulate all of the nominees and winners.”
