Gus and Queen’s eye great escape
Gus MacPherson can finally say his next match is a must-win game – but would rather it wasn’t the case for Queen’s Park.
The Spiders are bottom of League One and two points adrift of Albion Rovers as they head into their last league fixture as favourites for the drop.
However, a dominating second-half show in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Forfar has shown MacPherson his players can pull off a great escape.
Queen’s welcome Arbroath – who have already secured a play-off spot – this weekend, in the hope three points and a loss for Albion is enough to avoid automatic relegation.
MacPherson said: “It’s a must-win game, simple as that. Journalists come out and say it’s a must-win game in mid October. But this is a must-win if we are to take this opportunity to stay in the division.
“It doesn’t get any tougher. Arbroath have had a fantastic season – in my opinion the best side outwith the top two.
“They are in the play-offs on merit so it will be tough but we know what we need to do.”
