Hollytree tots have lots of fun in the sun
Youngsters enjoy outdoor learning sessions
Cambuslang nursery kids took learning outside to enjoy the warm weather in support of National Outdoor Classroom Day.
From babies to pre-school age children, Hollytree Nursery tots had lots of fun in the sun during planned lessons last month.
Staff each came up with a learning experience to challenge their minds and encourage curiosity and enquiry.
The ideas were imaginative and exciting and the kids took part in scavenger hunts, making a water wall, creating paint brushes with natural resources and setting up an outdoor music area.
Manager Donna Brown said there was a buzz throughout the nursery on May 17 and staff were very enthusiastic and competitive as a winner was to be chosen.
There was even a mini bush tucker trial for toddlers and areas set out for language and literacy learning. Donna said: “Outdoor learning is very much a part of our nursery curriculum.
“Children have access to outdoors everyday and the nursery runs its own outdoor adventure programme extending children’s learning and experiences in the natural environment.
“Learning outdoors has countless benefits for children, it supports healthy development and active lifestyles.
“The emphasis on outdoor learning over the years has increased greatly and evidence shows children learn best outdoors in the natural environment.”
Hollytree have been working on a garden project since 2017 and have raised funds for a wooden chalet house, resources and a newly planted natural area.
The plans will continue this summer with the hopes of a permanent outdoor classroom area which will run 51 weeks of the year.
