General health has also improved

A Cambuslang gran has her toddler grandson to thank for regaining her health and getting back in shape.

Anne-Marie Baran was overweight, unfit, and had no real motivation to change her dodgy diet filled with greasy takeaways and sweet treats.

That was until little Calum, aged two and a half, started running around like mad.

Anne-Marie, 67, said: “I look after my grandson a few days a week and needed to be healthy and fit, as running around after a child is really hard work and being overweight doesn’t make it any easier.

“The time had come to lose weight, as I felt my general health wasn’t great and thought it was time to seriously do something about it.

“I wanted to be able to enjoy my time with my grandson, and not worry about my unfit state of health.”

Anne-Marie was 14st 9lbs when she rejoined Weight Watchers at the Cambuslang Baptist Church in this time last year.

Her friend Trina Lindsay joined at around the same time, and the pair became great support for each other with daily encouragement and swapping recipes.

Now, a year on, Ann Marie is 3st 5lbs lighter, and feeling great.

She said: “We enjoy our weekly friendly group. Our coach Lynda is a great support to us.

“The Weight Watchers app is a godsend to keep track of our eating and general exercise activities, as I can log all my exercise on the activity section in my app.

“My general health has improved tremendously, and I can now enjoy swimming, cycling and walking.

“I can now swim three or four times a week, whereas before this just would not have been possible as the extra weight I was carrying just made it too difficult and uncomfortable.”

Anne-Marie added: “I also now enjoy clothes shopping as I can now buy a size 14, and no longer need a size 18/20!”

The nutritional advice Anne-Marie received at her Cambuslang group every Tuesday night, couple with support from pal Trina, have been a real recipe for success.

Ann Marie said: “I used to eat all the wrong things, like pizza, high fat foods, fish and chips, and takeaways. I also had a very very sweet tooth and my portion sizes were always too big.

“Now I eat a lot better, including lots of fresh fruit and vegetables. My portions have now reduced to a normal size, and the plan ensures that my eating habits have changed for good.

“The change in my overall health has greatly improved. I eat very healthy now and exercise regularly, and Weight Watchers just fits in well with my daily life.

“I am happy in my life now and have my family and friend Trina to thank for that and of course my coach Lynda for all her encouragement.

“I feel I have my life back on track, and I’m more confident in myself.”
