Seery: Everything just went so wrong for us

Cambuslang Rugby coach Jamie Seery admitted he couldn’t believe his eyes as the team crashed to their heaviest defeat in his time in charge.

Cambus’s three match winning run came to a horrendous halt as they were destroyed by a rampant Allan Glen’s team.

They were down 41-0 at halftime and the game only got worse from there, with David Bolton and Euan Jones scoring the Cambus tries on a miserable day for the Coat’s Park men. Jamie admitted, with understatement: “It was not a good afternoon.

“The first 10 minutes or so it was pretty even, and I thought it was going to be a close game, then they scored a couple of tries back to back and we collapsed from there.

“It’s the heaviest defeat I’ve had as coach and everything just went wrong.

“Our legs seemed to get heavier and heavier as the game went on.

“We didn’t have much of the ball and as it got worse you just start to lose track mentally and make more and more mistakes.

“We did score a couple of tries late on so the guys did keep fighting until the end, but it was awful.” Now Jamie is demanding a reaction from his team this Saturday, when they return home to play Annan.

And he hopes that his side do not get too downhearted after the thumping last weekend.

He said: “Obviously it’s embarrassing.

“But in the grand scheme of things we have taken three wins from six games and are in the middle of the table.

“We need a reaction, both in training, and on Saturday, and to get things moving in the right direction again.

“Annan are a good team and our games against them tend to be tough, close matches.

“We need to come out with a bit more fire and make sure that we get the five points again.”
