A KIND-HEARTED pupil was so moved by the plight of Syrian refugees she decided to give up her bed for a week.

Thirteen-year-old Renee Benjamin (pictured), a pupil at St Antony’s Catholic College in Urmston, spent the last week of Lent sleeping on her bedroom floor in sympathy of children who have fled their homes following the war in Syria.

Renee wants to continue helping those affected by conflict. She said: “I saw the pictures of children my own age sleeping rough on the television and in the newspapers and I just wanted to show my support.

“I think it is important to show you care about the problems of others.

“In fact, I am quite enjoying the experience and might even give up my bed for good.

“I want to be a chef when I am older, ideally helping to feed the thousands of refugees who find themselves homeless in times of conflict.”
