Alfa Giulietta 2.0 JTDM TCT

Sale & Altrincham Advertiser - - MOTORING -

AND the winner is…. Alfa Romeo – the winner that is for the most stylish interior of any car I have tested in recent months.

Stepping into our sporty test car, the Alfa Giulietta 2.0 JTDM TCT Exclusive, you are surrounded by an interior that would not look out of place in a Ferrari or Maserati, with superbly comfortable yet firm red leather heated sports seats and red leather inserts elsewhere throughout the cabin.

Everything in there is quality including the inset touchscreen – which operates everything from the DAB radio and sat-nav to displaying what’s happening when you engage the Alfa trademark DNA drive system.

Now this is far more than a ‘sport button’ as offered by many other manufacturers. The three settings really do make a difference to many aspects of the car’s performance.

Outside the Giulietta’s strongest selling point has always been that it is a sporty-looking coupe but has five-door practicality with those Alfa trademark ‘hidden’ rear door handles.

Under the fluted bonnet sits a 1956cc, 150bhp multijet Alfa diesel engine, which pulls strongly and means 0-62 comes up in a very respectable 7.8 seconds with a top speed of 136mph. Even so there is no loss of economy with up to 72mpg on a run and 54 around town (64 combined). As well as our two-litre diesel the Giulietta comes with a choice of 1.4 petrol (120bhp), 1.4 petrol turbo (170bhp) or 1.6 JTD diesel (105) engines.

There are four main trim levels but all have a high level of equipment. Prices start from £18,235 for the 1.4, 120bhp petrol Progression version up to the Sportiva Nav with 2.0-litre diesel power. Our Exclusive 2.0 JTDM is £25,630 OTR but had extras which took that up to £29,600.
