Beechy knocked out

Salford Advertiser - - MOTORS - KEITH LONG

BEECHFIELD United’s first team were knocked out of the Murray Trophy when they were beaten 4-2 by hosts Heywood St James.

United were forced to field a weakened team after several key players were unavailable. Heywood quickly found their attacking rhythm and in the second minute an effort by their number 10 hit the post but three minutes later Heywood took a deserved lead. United keeper Jordan Broxson made three important saves as Jimmies kept the pressure on United’s makeshift back four and the home team went 2-0 up after 20 minutes.

United were awarded a penalty in the 34th minute and Craig Massey easily beat the keeper via a well executed spot-kick to reduce the arrears.

Heywood’s best player, wearing the number 11 shirt, scored his team’s third goal via an outstanding finish.

Beechy began the second half displaying renewed confidence and a move involving Massey and Chris Ferris ended with the latter making it 3-2 in the 39th minute when he hammered the ball past the keeper from close range.

Suddenly it was Heywood’s turn to deal with the pressure as Beechy created some powerful attacks and looked capable of equalising.

United then conceded a soft fourth goal in the 73rd minute.
