Glam Mar­jorie all set for mile­stone

A SMARTLY-DRESSED cen­te­nar­ian is cel­e­brat­ing her land­mark birth­day on Christ­mas Eve.

With­out fail, Mar­jorie Coe, nee Roberts, from Higher Broughton, puts on her jew­ellery, lip­stick, hat, gloves and coat to at­tend church.

The parish­ioner at St Luke’s Church in Brin­ning­ton, Stock­port, was con­firmed at St Johns Parish Church in Higher Broughton, where she mar­ried the late George Coe in 1940. She also wor­shipped at the for­mer Salem Methodist Chapel in Higher Broughton.

Her friend Winifred Thomas said: “She tells me off if I haven’t got a neck­lace on. She has al­ways been glam­orous and smartly dressed and she is al­ways wear­ing ear­rings.

“Un­til re­cently she wore high heels and when we are shop­ping she still looks for the leopard pat­tern high heels or gold shoes. She loves any­thing sparkly.”

Mar­jorie was born on De­cem­ber 24 1914 in Wilt­shire Street, Higher Broughton and she was ed­u­cated at Le­ices­ter Road Coun­cil School. She lived at Mid­field Court shel­tered hous­ing in Higher Broughton un­til 2013 and now re­sides at Ap­ple­ton Manor Care Home in Bred­bury.
