Glam Marjorie all set for milestone
A SMARTLY-DRESSED centenarian is celebrating her landmark birthday on Christmas Eve.
Without fail, Marjorie Coe, nee Roberts, from Higher Broughton, puts on her jewellery, lipstick, hat, gloves and coat to attend church.
The parishioner at St Luke’s Church in Brinnington, Stockport, was confirmed at St Johns Parish Church in Higher Broughton, where she married the late George Coe in 1940. She also worshipped at the former Salem Methodist Chapel in Higher Broughton.
Her friend Winifred Thomas said: “She tells me off if I haven’t got a necklace on. She has always been glamorous and smartly dressed and she is always wearing earrings.
“Until recently she wore high heels and when we are shopping she still looks for the leopard pattern high heels or gold shoes. She loves anything sparkly.”
Marjorie was born on December 24 1914 in Wiltshire Street, Higher Broughton and she was educated at Leicester Road Council School. She lived at Midfield Court sheltered housing in Higher Broughton until 2013 and now resides at Appleton Manor Care Home in Bredbury.
