MANCHESTER MATTERS

Salford Advertiser - - NEWS -

P OLL cards are starting to be delivered in Manchester from this weekend for the impending general and local elections which take place on May 7.

With just over two weeks until April 20, the final deadline to register for the elections, would-be voters who have not registered yet are being urged to do so before it is too late.

Poll cards have begun to be sent out to every household in Manchester for each person who is registered at the address.

Where no one is currently registered at the address, residents will also be informed.

Anyone who is registered but has not received their poll card by Friday, April 10 should contact the elections team on 0161 2341212.

Sir Howard Bernstein, electoral registration officer for Manchester, said: “There’s really very little time left to register now. Anyone who wants to make their choice count in these vital elections needs to make sure they are registered without delay. ● “If people are in any doubt about whether they are registered, or whether they are registered at their current address, we’d also urge them to check.

“The last thing we want is for anybody to inadvertently bar themselves from voting.

“There’s some tremendous work going on around the city to encourage people to register, for example the work the student unions are doing at our universities.

“We’re doing all we can as a city to promote registration and make it as simple as possible. But we can only put people on the register if they apply and the final step is up to individuals.

“I would encourage people not to miss out.”

Registering to vote is quick and easy and you can do it online in less than five minutes at www.gov.uk/ registertovote – you just need to have your National Insurance number handy.
