TWO FIRES IN 24 HRS CLOUD CITY IN SMOKE

Asec­ond fire hit sal­ford in un­der 24 hours, with black smoke seen from across the city.

large quan­tity of tyres caught fire on waste­land on Adel­phi street shortly be­fore 6pm on Mon­day – with three fire crews at­tend­ing the blaze.

A spokesman for the fire ser­vice said at the time: “Three crews are tack­ling a large quan­tity of tyres on fire.”

Po­lice cor­doned off the street to mo­torists and pedes­tri­ans.

The black plumes of smoke could be seen as far out as Prest­wich, Al­trin­cham and old Traf­ford.

Andy Parker, who lives nearby, said: “You could see fire en­gines and flames com­ing up over the side of the wall.

“Peo­ple were say­ing, ‘oh my God, an­other fire’,” he added.

This is the sec­ond ma­jor fire to hit the city in un­der 24 hours.

crews from six fire sta­tions were called out to a build­ing fire at West­port House, on Fred­er­ick street, around 11pm on sun­day night.

Huge plumes of smoke were seen com­ing from the area of JWs Waste.

Fire­fight­ers from sal­ford, Broughton, Age­croft, ec­cles, Moss side and Manch­ester cen­tral fire sta­tions sent to the de­pot found a large amount of re­cy­cling waste on fire.
