TWO FIRES IN 24 HRS CLOUD CITY IN SMOKE
Asecond fire hit salford in under 24 hours, with black smoke seen from across the city.
large quantity of tyres caught fire on wasteland on Adelphi street shortly before 6pm on Monday – with three fire crews attending the blaze.
A spokesman for the fire service said at the time: “Three crews are tackling a large quantity of tyres on fire.”
Police cordoned off the street to motorists and pedestrians.
The black plumes of smoke could be seen as far out as Prestwich, Altrincham and old Trafford.
Andy Parker, who lives nearby, said: “You could see fire engines and flames coming up over the side of the wall.
“People were saying, ‘oh my God, another fire’,” he added.
This is the second major fire to hit the city in under 24 hours.
crews from six fire stations were called out to a building fire at Westport House, on Frederick street, around 11pm on sunday night.
Huge plumes of smoke were seen coming from the area of JWs Waste.
Firefighters from salford, Broughton, Agecroft, eccles, Moss side and Manchester central fire stations sent to the depot found a large amount of recycling waste on fire.
