What is an icon (religious worship aside – we’re talking cultural icons here)? For our 29th issue, here at Schön! we have made it our mission to find out. We’ve travelled from London to Los Angeles, and from New York to Nice, to bring you a selection of people who have already reached iconic status, as well as those well on their way to doing so.

How does a model transform from the girl of the moment to a face we can never forget? To discover the answer, look no further than our cover star Iman. She has worked with the world’s top photographers, from Avedon to Weber, and the images they created together will continue to inspire long after we are gone. Schön! has the privilege to present her in a photo shoot by Tiziano Magni and to find out more about the extraordinary things she has done, and is still doing.

A long list of world class photographers have helped us capture all that is iconic about fashion, from the cult couture of Thierry Mugler, to the timeless style of Sergio Rossi. We speak to Prabal Gurung, who is on the brink of becoming one of fashion’s maestri. When it comes to fashion icons, they don’t come much more enduring than the unique Iris Apfel, the Rare Bird of Fashion, who is still going strong aged 94, and front row fixture James Goldstein, who talks us through his inimitable style.

In the world of film, we turn to the stars of the future. We’ll place our bets on young Brit and BAFTA nominee George MacKay as becoming one of the finest actors of his generation. Meanwhile, over the Atlantic, Aubrey Peeples looks set for superstardom as she takes the lead in the hotly anticipated Jem and the Holograms.

If music’s more your thing, read on for interviews with top DJ Seth Troxler, the maverick Mr Hudson, Queen of New York’s nightlife and creator of the legendary Love Ball, Susanne Bartsch and pop idol, artist, model and muse, Amanda Lear. Having brought us one of the biggest hits of the ’90s, Natalie Imbruglia has already secured herself iconic status, but is now back in a big way with her new album.

Whether it’s through an image, a sound, a performance, or simply by just ‘being’, these are the people who have shaped and will continue to shape our cultural landscape, past, present and future. Turn our pages for a taste of the truly timeless…
