Chilling echo of 1972 Olympics

THE Munich Olympia Shopping Centre opened in 1972 – the year Palestinian terrorists kidnapped and killed 11 Israeli athletes and officials as the city hosted the Olympic Games.

The Black September group stormed the Israeli team’s hotel rooms as they slept on September 5 almost 44 years ago. They had demanded the release of 234 prisoners jailed in Israel – and the German-held founders of the Red Army Faction, Andreas Baader and Ulrike Meinhof.
