Eurostar’s Welsh boost

-

PASSENGERS worried about terrorism have hurt trading at Eurostar which also saw business travellers delay trips in the run-up to the referendum.

The cross-channel operator said passenger numbers in the second quarter of the year were down 3pc compared to last year and sales revenues were 10pc lower.

Business demand softened in the run-up to the EU referendum and as holidaymakers continued to be worried about terrorism.

But in June, the number of travellers increased by 2pc following a surge in demand during Euro 2016.

More than a million passengers travelled by highspeed rail, with the success of Wales boosting travel in the final stages as thousands of football fans took the train to the game.
