Toddler badly hurt in 30ft plunge from flat window

-

A TODDLER is seriously ill in hospital after plunging 30ft from the window of a tenement flat.

The two-year-old boy, who has not been named, fell from a second-floor window onto the pavement below.

His distraught father rushed from the flat in Rutherglen, Lanarkshire, and was seen carrying him back inside the property in the town’s Kirkwood Street.

Emergency services went to the scene on Tuesday afternoon and the youngster is being treated at Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

Police have begun an investigation and were still at the scene quizzing neighbours and potential witnesses yesterday.

Residents said the family had lived in the area for around a year and told of their horror.

Neighbour Allan Gaitens, 9, said: ‘I looked out of the window and saw all the commotion.

‘I’ve been told he fell out of one of the small windows of the flat. It’s a drop of about 30ft.’

The toddler was still in hospital last night but no update on his condition was available.

A Police Scotland spokesman said inquiries into the incident are continuing.
