Harzand’s fit to run in the Arc

- By MARCUS TOWNEND Racing Correspondent

DUAL Derby winner Harzand has been given the go-ahead to run in Sunday’s Prix de L’Arc de Triomphe by trainer Dermot Weld. The Aga Khan-owned colt will line up at Chantilly after emerging positively from a work-out yesterday. Harzand had sustained a cut to a leg when unplaced in the Irish Champion Stakes earlier this month. Pat Smullen’s mount, an 8-1 shot, is one of 19 horses left in the Arc. But missing is stablemate Fascinating Rock, who will instead attempt to win the Champion Stakes at Ascot, for the second year running, two weeks on Saturday. The Ascot race also remains the target of Jean-Claude Rougettrained Irish Champion Stakes winner Almanzor despite his remaining among the Arc possibles. Arc favourite at 15-8 is Roger Varian-trained Postponed. The only other British-trained entry is Kevin Ryan-trained The Grey Gatsby (33-1).
