Girl power! Theresa is won over by pupils’ cards

- By Gerri Peev Political Correspondent

HER predecessors David Cameron and Tony Blair used to hand out Christmas cards bearing the faces of themselves and their families.

But for her first Christmas as Prime Minister, Theresa May has abandoned this practice in favour of three charming cards designed by schoolgirls from her Maidenhead constituency.

The youngsters were the winners of a competition and the Prime Minister chose three winners after she couldn’t pick one from the 600 entries.

Entrants were asked to illustrate a Christmas scene at No 10. Five-year-old Isabelle Milnes’s card features Larry the Downing Street cat, children singing carols and Santa flying overhead.

Eleven-year-old Jade Winsor’s picture includes the Prime Minister’s Christmas dinner. Sophie Brazil, also 11, drew Santa behind No 10’s railings.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon’s Christmas card features cartoon legend Oor Wullie, while Jeremy Corbyn is not expected to unveil his card until Monday. Last year, he drew criticism when he released a card showing a frozen bicycle chained to railings.
