Ban EU boats from fish­ing

TWO-THIRDS of Scots be­lieve fish­ing boats from other EU na­tions should be banned or re­stricted from en­ter­ing Bri­tish wa­ters after Brexit, a poll has re­vealed.

And more than half of peo­ple sur­veyed think that leav­ing the Com­mon Fish­eries Pol­icy (CFP) will pro­vide fish­er­men based in the UK with greater op­por­tu­ni­ties.

The YouGov poll was pub­lished yes­ter­day by the Scot­tish Fish­er­men’s Fed­er­a­tion (SFF).

Chief ex­ec­u­tive Ber­tie Arm­strong said the poll in­di­cates ‘strong public sup­port for the stance taken by the in­dus­try’.

The Fed­er­a­tion in­sist that both the West­min­ster gov­ern­ment and Scot­tish min­is­ters must en­sure con­trol of UK wa­ters is re­tained after Brexit.
