Charity axes fast-track bid

Scottish Daily Mail - - News -

A CHARITY has dropped a bid to bring a fast-track teacher training scheme to Scotland.

Teach First said it has withdrawn its application following meetings with Nicola Sturgeon and John Swinney.

The charity was unable to find a university partner to work with – as demanded by the Scottish Government – amid fears from institutions that its scheme could hit classroom standards.

James Westhead, executive director of Teach First, said: ‘Whilst we believe we could help make a positive contribution to closing the attainment gap, we have decided not to bid for the current tender.’
