Scottish Daily Mail - - News - By Peter McGlone

A PENSIONER who spent three years living in a Mercedes parked in a lay-by before being evicted has returned – in a 14-year-old Fiat Panda with a broken heater.

‘A9 man’ Charles Ingram has made his home on the grass verge near Blair Atholl, with cars and trucks hurtling past a few yards away.

The 72-year-old was forcibly evicted by Transport Scotland from the same spot in 2015 as he was deemed to be a distraction and a danger to drivers.

As snow began to fall in the area yesterday, Mr Ingram, who is originally from Blair Atholl, said the heater in his Fiat no longer works but did not want to comment further.

His original removal caused outrage on social media, with ‘A9 man’ becoming a trending topic on Facebook.

In a recent film about him, called Man on Layby 52, Mr Ingram said: ‘Freedom, isn’t it?

‘You see the sun come up in the mornings, the sun going down at night, the moon coming up, everything.

‘You see nothing down there, I’m no staying in Perth. I’m not a townie.’
