WHAT THEY CLAIMED . . . AND THE TRUTH

Scottish Daily Mail - - Life -

TEESSIDE UNIVERSITY

Claim: ‘Top university in England for long-term graduate prospects’

Truth: Government data does not prove Teesside is top for graduate destinations or earnings.

FALMOUTH UNIVERSITY

Claim: ‘Number one arts university’

Truth: Named top of a set of just five specialist arts universities in three league tables. Other larger universities offering arts subjects are ranked higher.

UNIVERSITY OF EAST ANGLIA

Claim: ‘In the top five for student satisfaction’

Truth: In the top nine for student satisfaction last year – but only among non-specialist universities in England.

UNIVERSITY OF STRATHCLYDE

Claim: ‘Ranked number one in the UK for physics’

Truth: Claim based on government research scores which did not formally rank universities – so Strathclyde could not be described as ‘number one’.

Great expectations: Students at Teesside
