Thieves grab rare guinea

-

POLICE are hunting thieves who stole a rare gold George III ‘spade’ guinea from a collector.

The coin was among 15 taken in a ‘distraction’ crime involving two men who called at the collector’s home to view coins he had for sale.

Fife police said the theft took place around 3pm on Friday, December 22 in the Churchill Crescent area of St Andrews.

Constable Paddy Paterson of St Andrews Police Station said: ‘This is a despicable act which has left the owner devastated. I would ask anyone who has information about their current whereabouts to contact the police as soon as possible.’
