A genial genius... so here’s to you, Chef
SCOTTISH chefs don’t come better than Andrew Fairlie. Running the only two Michelinstarred eatery in the country, he is known for his exquisite palate, ability to pair ingredients and a true devotion to fresh, local produce.
All that aside, he’s a genuinely nice bloke, a man who runs a kitchen where he shakes each member of staff’s hand when they arrive, before they all sit down to eat together. Gordon Ramsay he most definitely ain’t.
Fairlie’s announcement this week that there is no more treatment available for the brain tumour he has had since 2005, has sent shockwaves throughout the food world and beyond.
He says it is now about ‘making every day gorgeous’. He married Kate, his long-term partner, on Wednesday.
I wish them as many gorgeous days as possible.
