Surgery ‘not an op­tion for boxer’

BOXER Mike Tow­ell suf­fered an ‘un­sur­viv­able’ in­jury dur­ing the bout that killed him, a fa­tal ac­ci­dent in­quiry heard yes­ter­day.

Mr Tow­ell, pic­tured, from Dundee, died of a bleed on the brain the day af­ter his fifth round de­feat at the Radis­son Blu ho­tel in Glas­gow by Welsh­man Dale Evans on Septem­ber 29, 2016.

Glas­gow Royal In­fir­mary A&E doc­tor Ryan Con­nelly told the in­quiry into his death at Glas­gow Sher­iff Court yes­ter­day that the 25-year-old suf­fered a large bleed in­side the top layer of his brain and neu­ro­sur­geons said they would not be able to suc­cess­fully op­er­ate.

The in­quiry, be­fore Sher­iff Prin­ci­pal Craig Turnbull, con­tin­ues.
