Surgery ‘not an option for boxer’
BOXER Mike Towell suffered an ‘unsurvivable’ injury during the bout that killed him, a fatal accident inquiry heard yesterday.
Mr Towell, pictured, from Dundee, died of a bleed on the brain the day after his fifth round defeat at the Radisson Blu hotel in Glasgow by Welshman Dale Evans on September 29, 2016.
Glasgow Royal Infirmary A&E doctor Ryan Connelly told the inquiry into his death at Glasgow Sheriff Court yesterday that the 25-year-old suffered a large bleed inside the top layer of his brain and neurosurgeons said they would not be able to successfully operate.
The inquiry, before Sheriff Principal Craig Turnbull, continues.
