. . . AND FOUND
TRAINEE RAF nurses have been reunited after 50 years. ‘With 16 others, I did basic training at RAF Halton, Buckinghamshire, before going on to RAF Cosford, Shropshire, in 1968 for nurse training,’ says Helen Orr, nee Forsyth. ‘Afterwards, in 1970, I flew out with three others to RAF Wegberg in Germany. ‘They were happy times and I’d love to find my old friends. ‘I married Michael, an RAF chap, in 1971 and we now live near RAF Brize Norton, Oxfordshire. I work as a nursing home deputy matron.’ We’ve already put Helen in touch with Anne Brown, nee Vernon, who emailed: ‘I was a nurse at RAF Cosford during Helen’s training there. I was friendly with Dot Clarke on her course.’ Now we have a further contact. ‘I completed my training in 1971 and was posted to Cyprus,’ writes Jenny Thorpe, nee Knight. ‘I had to leave the RAF when my husband, a Combined Services rugby player, was posted to Lincoln. I was a nurse for 47 years and loved every minute.’
