Scientists at Rothamsted Research have bred a type of wheat to improve whisky production. Their new variety was created to leave behind less sticky residue, meaning distilleries should have to do less cleaning. A pilot test is due to take place at a disillery later this year, with a full-scale trial expected to begin within the next five years. www.rothamsted.ac.uk
