Q: Having used original Red Gill lures hard to the bottom for years, i have recently tried using others like the weighted Sidewinder to reduce losses. Do you think that with the latter you compromise some of the lure’s action?

HG says: a lot of these modern soft lures that have inbuilt weights seem to swim really well, but if you are struggling with tackle losses then it would really be worth looking for soft plastic lures that are rigged with weedless hooks. this helps to cut down on the hooks getting snagged. there are more and more lures like this out there now, but i find it increasingly hard to look beyond the Fiiish black minnow, and i don’t lose many of them to snags. Weedless hooks have really opened my eyes to fishing soft plastics in among the rough stuff.
