MOST of us buy hooks in pack­ets or boxes, and apart from per­haps a lit­tle thought on pat­terns and sizes for types of fish, many an­glers don’t con­sider the most im­por­tant thing...the sharp­ness.

I have al­ways spent time hon­ing my salt­wa­ter hooks, be­cause even the best chem­i­cally-sharp­ened brands do not al­ways cut it, of­ten lacking real sharp­ness across the whole point, with many be­ing point sharp, but not honed down enough over the full length of the point to aid easy, deep pen­e­tra­tion.
