Q: I’ve seen massive fish caught in television angling programmes, but are there big fish in our seas that will give us a good fight?

DL says: Blue shark are abundant in many areas, as are porbeagles at certain times of the year. Caught on light tackle, tope are great sport, and both skate and large conger eels will certainly give you a solid workout.

Bluefin tuna are on the increase, too, but my understanding is that specifically targeting these is illegal, as the UK has no quota for the species. Any tuna caught as a by-catch must be released immediately.
