Sea Angler (UK) - - YOUR FISHING -

This 75lb tope (right), boated by Joey Brady, is bigger than the existing Irish record of 66lb 8oz. It was caught and released by the angler from Dublin who fished off Kilmore Quay, Wexford, on Autumn Dream. The tope took a fresh mackerel on size 8/0 Gamakatsu Octopus circle hook.

“It was the fish of a lifetime and one I’ll never forget,” said Joey. In Wales, a bigger tope was caught by an angler fishing out of Holyhead, Anglesey. Gav Williams (right, below), from Bangor, Gwynedd, caught the new personal-best fish, calculated to weigh 83lb, on a fresh mackerel on a running leger rig with a size 10/0 circle hook. The fish was 66in long with a girth of 32.3in.

In Scotland, Peter McCallum, of Glenluce, Wigtownshire, caught his first tope, weighing 45lb, on a mackerel flapper while fishing from Steve Stringer’s charter boat Lucky Dip II, out of Portpatrick, Dumfries and Galloway.
