It's brochure launch & training season
Over the previous 10 years I have written his column from an aircraft, a garden and a few other places away from a shop or office, but this is the first time I've penned it from the deck of an African safari lodge.
I am in Pumba Private Game Reserve in South Africa's Eastern Cape, so it is ‘Goeie More’ to you all (that's good morning in Afrikaans).
I'm enjoying a great tour of one of my favourite countries, but more of that in a future edition of Selling Travel. For now, by the magic of cyberspace, I'm keeping up to date with the goings-on back at
The Sussex Travel Company.
Service and a smile
Justine was very happy with the service she received from Viking Cruises, for a booking to the Far East for new clients who were travelling from Hong Kong to Bangkok. It was a new cruise line for the clients, but the pre-service has been so great that we know our clients will be ‘wowed’ on their return, which hopefully will lead to some more shorthaul bookings too.
She managed to get that all tied up before she headed off to Eastern Canada on a fam trip with Travelpack. This is a region of the country none of us have explored so we're looking forward to her sharing her knowledge when she returns.
We've all been in and out of the office lately but Justine had only just returned from a family trip which included Bangkok, Khao
Lak and Elephant Hills. We've had many clients praise the latter and Justine's personal experience just confirmed all the positive things we'd heard – but it's so important for us to sell product from first hand experience.
Justine's family loved their three-day stay, spending a night at The Elephant Camp and another at the Rainforest Camp. They enjoyed jungle trekking and interaction with these gentle giants. Elephant Hills don't let guests ride these mainly ex-logging ellie’s, but instead offer them a respectful retirement by allowing guests to watch them playing and bathing in mud pools. Guests can assist the mahouts in feeding the elephants, before the creatures are released to roam freely - just as they should!
Destinations of the month for us have been Canada, South Africa, Sri Lanka and Malaysia, places that between us we have visited on fams a number of times.
Pure coincidence? I don't think so!
Our passion for a destination is clear and clients' trust in us pays off as they continually recommend us.
It's brochure launch season and we've all been busy. The annual Caribtours brochure launch at Claridges is a highlight but there's a whole host of invitations flooding in. They're all worth attending so we'll fit in as many as we can. My next column will reveal a slightly-less-travelled beach destination for pre- or post-South Africa, along with lots of game viewing, glorious scenery, gourmet dining and, of course, wine-yielding vineyards as far as the eye can see! Happy selling!
