Shooting Gazette - - Gundog update gundogs -

throughout the day. Four dogs from the team of six produced some fantastic birds for the guns.

The top three dogs of the day – Dom Goutorbe’s English setter bitch FTCH Upperwood Hera, Gerald Devine’s English setter dog FTCH Ballyellen Cody and Steve Lound’s pointer dog Frosted Elfin of Fleetstalk – were outstanding and it would have been a pleasure to follow them all day with a gun. FTCH Upperwood Hera’s exceptional game sense and her quiet, relaxed game production with minimal handling made it look so easy.

The guns were asked to pick their choice from each of the teams and they were: Dom Goutorbe’s English setter FTCH Upperwood Hera; Sara Chichester handling Gill Truman’s Gordon setter White Paws of Gawcott; Steve Robinson with Irish setter FTCH Rapid Meg; and Steve Lound with pointer dog Frosted Elfin of Fleetstalk, who also won the keeper’s choice of the day.

Finally, at the end of the day the estate provided a wonderful BBQ for everyone and a collection was made in aid of The Gamekeepers’ Welfare Trust. Congratulations must go to all those who took part. It was a wonderful tribute to Mrs Town and she would have been very proud. Although best known to many people for her achievements and involvement in field trials, she was first and foremost a shooting person. It was a privilege for all those who shared this special day to be able to watch these very special dogs doing what they were bred for in such a stunning location. Pointer team guns’ & keepers’ choice Frosted Elfin of Fleetstalk, owned & handled by Steve Lound.
