The Duchy Work­ing Gun­dog Club were priv­i­leged to hold a AV novice spaniel trial at the amaz­ing Pen­til­lie Cas­tle Es­tate late last year by kind per­mis­sion of Mr T. Co­ry­ton, Mr Tony Kennedy, head­keeper Mr Dave Lo­vatt and as­sisted by un­der­keeper Mr Dan Nor­gate, writes Sam Clark.

Alice Wise, the field trial sec­re­tary, was chief stew­ard on the day, it was four-judge sys­tem with AP judges Steve Wanstall and Si­mon Jones giv­ing the non-pan­els Paddy Wil­liams and Andrew Faulkner the op­por­tu­nity to gain more valu­able ex­pe­ri­ence un­der two knowl­edge­able judges.

The day was run in roots with per­fect game sup­ply giv­ing ev­ery han­dler the same op­por­tu­nity to let their dogs shine. The guns, Mr Wayne Swiggs, Mr Nigel Par­tiss, Mr Gary Stephens and Mr Reg Wise, shot bril­liantly, with the trial fin­ish­ing by lunchtime.

There were two new tro­phies given, one from BASC for Guns' Choice, which went to Gra­ham West, and Charles Cole pre­sent­ing the Ker­now Cup for best lo­cal novice han­dler to Rob Wil­mott.

the trial was held on amaz­ing ground with some fan­tas­tic views.
