Novice test for UGS in Suffolk

Club: The United Utility Gundog Society (Eastern Counties branch) Event: Novice sugar beet test Venue: Cockrills Farm, Cambridgeshire Sponsors: Skinner’s and Sporting Saint

Judges: Peter Fulcher and Andrew Mutimer The beet at Loose Hall is always good and tall, so with that and the difficult scenting conditions many dogs found marking difficult and, in fact, only one dog went straight to every one of its marks. Several dogs found the excitement too much and ran in, and one or two went ‘off’ in the strong wind; the stop whistle seemed not to be working very well for a lot of dogs. Only eight dogs went through in the cut, which was a difficult blind across the corner of the beet with a distraction thrown further out at an angle. Our thanks must go to all the dummy throwers, pistol firers, Sarah for the food and the stewards.
