have to swim. If you over­whelm them in deep wa­ter too quickly it can put them off. For­tu­nately Briar thought the wa­ter was fan­tas­tic and, soon af­ter go­ing in the pad­dling pool, was fol­low­ing her “nanny”, Tilda the Ger­man shep­herd, into the wa­ter trough. As she showed how happy and con­fi­dent she was, I let her swim in some big­ger bits of wa­ter with the older dogs. It is so im­por­tant that at this stage it re­mains fun and a game. Steadi­ness and con­trol will come later.
