Will a pet ferret work?
My daughter has a couple of pet ferrets. Every time I go ferreting, she asks if she can come along and bring her ferrets with her. Will they work?
Just because ferrets are pets does not necessarily mean that they won’t work.
A lot of pet ferrets have, of course, come from working homes in the first place. I could not think of a better way to find out whether they will work or not than by spending some time in the glorious countryside with your daughter and her ferrets.
Even if they don’t work, at least you have gone out with a clear mind and given them the chance to show that they can cut the mustard.
When you think about it, it is no different to taking a few youngsters out in the winter for their first run, because you never know how they will react — there are no guarantees that they will work.
But what you will experience is extra pressure from your daughter to ensure that nothing happens to her pets. Make sure that they are wearing ferret finder collars with new batteries and that your spade is at your side.
The vision of happiness when her ferrets bolt rabbits will only be overshadowed by the scowls and silence if anything happens to her beloved pets. Good luck. SW
