Black hole mystery
HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE, 9 JANUARY 2017
Like most known spiral galaxies, there is a supermassive black hole at the centre of RX J1140.1+0307. However, this particular specimen has one of the lowest black hole masses of any with a luminous galactic core. The brightness of the galactic centre is greater than can be explained by the mass of the black hole alone, leading astronomers to conclude there must be other, unknown forces at work.
